Retro Futurism and the Paleo-Future!
Just FYI, this post is completely unrelated to wedding video!
Two of my non-wedding interests are Retro Futurism and Paleo-Future. Retro Futurism is the idea that society creates tools, clothing styles, cars, etc. to resemble what people in the 1940’s and 50’s thought they would look like in the future. Big boxy ray guns, large nuclear powered vehicles, that sort of thing.

This directly ties in with another interest of mine, Paleo-Future. Paleo Future is about comparing what people thought the world would be like in the future to how it really turned out. Time capsules are a great example of this. People always put predictions into time capsule as to how their town/city will be when the capsule is opened. Reading all the outlandish thins people though would happen brings me regular amusement and occasionally I’m completely surprised as to how accurate other predictions are.
Here’s an example borrowed from one of my favorite blogs, Paleo-Future where my own comments appear in RED:

The December 27, 1950 Robesonian (Lumberton, NC) ran an Associated Press article titled, “How Experts Think We’ll Live in 2000 A.D.” The article covered the future of movies, commercial flight, space travel, medicine and women, among many other topics.
- Wireless transmission of electric power, long a dream of the engineer, will have come into being. There will be no more power lines to break in storms. A simple small antenna on the roof will pick up the current for lighting a house.
I wish!!
- In 2000 we shall be able to fly around the world in a day. We shall be neighbors of everyone else on earth, to whom we wish to be neighborly.
Very True!
- The nation’s industrial and agricultural plant will be able to support 300 million persons 50 years from now - twice the present population. Land now unproductive will be made to yield. Science will steadily increase crop production per acre. Technological, industrial and economic advances will give the American people living standards eight times as high as now.
Amazing! Completely on the mark. Guy should have put some money down on this prediction!
- Combination automobile-planes will have been perfected.
Haha! Sure would help with that I-76 traffic!
Hope you enjoyed this little insight into my non-wedding interests! Stay tuned on the blog because some exciting trailers will be coming soon!
Squirrels!
We’re not always serious here at Aubert Films! Last week I was teaching my intern, Alysa, about the importance of utilizing depth of field when shooting video at a park near my office. While playing around with a special camera adapter, we noticed a woman feeding peanuts to squirrels. Naturally, we had to document it! Within a few minutes, literally 10 squirrels surrounded the woman, all vying for those precious peanuts!
Check out the fun video we produced below!
For those of you who are interested in the technical specs of the shoot: Shot on an XH-A1 with a Letus 35mm Adapter while switching between 50mm and 135mm prime lenses.
In-Line Vert Skating
One of the guys who edits and shoots for me also happens to moonlight as a professional In-Line Vert Skater. In fact, he’s (the last time I checked) number 8 in the world. When not doing video related activities, he’s a visiting pro at Woodward Sports Camp. To my excitement, he invited myself and photographer Mark Gardner out to the camp to shoot himself and two other pro skaters who are ranked #3 and #4. The shoot was a blast, I haven’t had this much fun in a long time. I put together a fun video in between editing projects so check it out below.Be sure to check out Mark’s photos at his blog by clicking here.
My Niece
I went over to my parent’s house today to visit my wonderful niece, Coral. I decided to take my brand new Canon 30D along for the trip. Let me start by saying that I love absolutely Coral. She’s perfect. Extraordinarily cute, playful, likes to tickle people, and gives me hugs and kisses (if only I could convince women my own age to do that, haha). She always surprises me and this meeting was no exception. She doesn’t say much but picks up words in random situations. I pull out my camera and I hear “Cheese!” (She loves cheese, which is another reason I can’t help but love this little brat). “Cheese!” she says. The kid knows a camera. I think I have a future shooter here… hmmm…. free labor?
Here is the result of our impromptu photo shoot:

What’s Been Going On With Aubert Films??
It’s pretty obvious that the Blog has suffered in the last few months! I’ve been very busy. I’ve started the launch of a new company (more on that soon), moved into my own office downtown, and worked on some of the most amazing weddings and corporate videos! So to get back on track, I’ve posted some pictures below outlining what has been going on with Aubert Films

The Philippines
This week I am in the Philippines attending, Top 25 Videographer, Chris Watson’s wedding in Bacolod. I’m also meeting up with Top 25 Videographer, Jason Magbanua who is shooting Chris’ wedding. I arrived on Saturday (Friday for you guys in the US) and have been traveling around the area seeing the sights and trying new foods. Most of the time I’m shooting video but I manged to grab a few stills with my iPhone.
Enjoy!

The Great Debaters!
Something my friends will tell you is that I really enjoy debating. I like to debate anything, even if I don’t agree with my side of the argument! Politics, Religion, HD; all the things you’re not supposed to debate about. I was the captain of the Emmaus High School debate team my senior year. It was a lot of fun, I really enjoyed debating the different arguments. I was actually considering being a trail lawyer after high school!
Anyways a few weeks ago I ran into my old debate coach at my local starbucks and she asked me to return and judge the division finals. Obviously I couldn’t turn this down. Check out some of the pics below. Congrats to Freedom High School for the victory over Parkland!
